FRESH X UNIVERSAL WORKS, third act

Consider the cardigan. A wardrobe staple with a historical past, that for some represents a cosy domestic idyll - a garment only to be worn when all the jobs have been done for the day and the fireside beckons you over to sit down with a good book and a glass of something decadent. Whilst for the more style obsessed, the cardigan provides the ultimate layering piece, a warming breakwater that subtly sits between sturdy outerwear and smart shirt. Whereas for others the cardigan is all about rock and roll rebellion, a totemic icon of anti-fashion that’s been validated by everyone from Morrissey and Kurt Cobain, to Tyler the Creator and Harry Styles.

Suffice to say that the ubiquitous cardigan is all things to all men (and women), from Haute Couture to WFH, its magical allure lies in the unique ability to adapt to any given look or location, whilst gently hugging our bodies along the way. Which brings us to some absolute legends in the contemporary cardigan making game, Universal Works.

A real evergreen favourite at Fresh, UW manages to combine timeless British garment making with inspired modern design details and colour combinations that are always on point. 

So in celebration of ten fantastic years working with our friends at Universal Works (and five years on from making our first piece together) we are thrilled to have collaborated together for the third time. To represent this special bond we chose to make two contrasting wool cardigans that encapsulate everything we love about this brilliant British brand. Playful, perennial and premium, these limited edition pieces mark an exciting chapter in the Fresh story. Now who fancies a game of chess?
